Can children take Synbiotics?

Important for the development of children’s gut microbiota

Research shows that the first transfer of microbes (the bacteria that, among other places, live in our gut) to a child occurs during birth. The mother’s gut microbiota can also play an important role in the development of the child’s gut microbiota. Studies have observed that children whose mothers had a more diverse gut microbiota (a higher presence of beneficial bacteria) may develop a stronger immune system.

To support a healthy gut microbiota for your child during pregnancy, one of the most important things you can do is to maintain a balanced gut microbiota yourself. This can be supported through a healthy and varied diet that is rich in fibre. In addition, intake of lactic acid bacteria may contribute to a healthier gut microbiota. Synbiotics are particularly relevant as they provide the gut with beneficial bacteria together with the nutrients these bacteria need to survive and grow.

For children, early introduction to regular foods has also been shown to support the development of a more diverse gut microbiota. The presence of beneficial bacteria has been associated with positive health outcomes and a lower occurrence of allergies, as well as a reduced risk of certain diseases later in life.

Even children who have a less diverse gut microbiota early in life may develop a more mature and diverse microbiota over time. This development can be supported through appropriate diet and lifestyle choices. Over time, focus on supporting a balanced gut microbiota in children through diet and everyday habits.

Can children take Synbiotic?

Can children take Synbiotic? Synbiotic can be used by adults, pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers and healthy children – people of all ages.

For children, we recommend starting with half a dose to observe how the child responds. And then gradually increasing to a full dose if appropriate. Synbiotic may also be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Adults and children from the age of 4 can use our Gut-Brain products. For children, we recommend starting with half the daily dose.

For some children it may be difficult to swallow capsules. In these cases, the capsule can be opened and the contents mixed with a cold drink or liquid.

Pay attention to how the child responds and reduce the dose if any side effects occur.

For breastfed infants, Synbiotic15 Daily may be mixed with a small amount of water and applied to the nipple or a dummy (not recommended for premature infants). Children with neurodevelopmental conditions may also benefit from taking Synbiotic.
